You put up a listing, waited a few days, and heard nothing. Sound familiar? You're not alone. Thousands of items sit unseen on Facebook Marketplace every day — not because buyers don't want them, but because the listings aren't doing their job. Here are the five most common culprits.
1. Your Main Photo Is Weak
The thumbnail is your listing's first impression. Buyers scroll fast. A dark, blurry, or cluttered photo gets skipped instantly in favour of a clean, bright alternative. Take your main photo in good natural light, frame the item clearly, and make sure nothing distracting is in the background. A white wall or clean floor is all you need.
2. Your Title Is Too Vague
Buyers search by keyword. A listing titled "Jacket" will almost never appear in relevant searches. A listing titled "Nike Puffer Jacket Men's Medium Black — Like New" will. Include the brand, model (if applicable), size or dimensions, colour, and condition in your title. More keywords = more discovery.
3. You're Asking Too Much
It's tempting to list high and "see what happens," but overpriced items simply don't get clicks. Buyers on Facebook Marketplace are price-sensitive and comparison-savvy. Before you set a price, search for identical or similar sold items and price competitively. A listing at $45 that sells today is worth more than a listing at $65 that sits for three months.
4. Your Description Is Empty (or Nonexistent)
Many sellers leave the description blank or write a single vague sentence. This is a missed opportunity. A detailed description signals that you're a serious, trustworthy seller. Include dimensions, the reason you're selling, any flaws, what's included, and your pickup availability. Buyers who have their questions answered upfront are far more likely to send that first message.
5. You Listed at the Wrong Time
Believe it or not, timing matters on Marketplace. The highest traffic windows are typically Thursday through Sunday evenings. Listing on a Tuesday morning means your item gets pushed down by the time the weekend crowd shows up. Relist or refresh your listing before peak hours to stay near the top of results.
Getting views is a solvable problem. Most underperforming listings fail for predictable reasons — and fixing them takes less than ten minutes. Fix your photo, sharpen your title, price with data, write a real description, and list at the right time. Your item will sell.
